The Chemo
After last week’s follow-up appointment with Dr. Hussain, Dave’s comprehensive test results have solidified his ability to receive the dose-dense MVAC chemotherapy regimen safely. This cocktail is made up of four drugs: methotrexate (M), vinblastine (V), adriamycin (A), and cisplatin (C).
Every 14 days for the next few months, Dave will receive his chemotherapy infusions for about 4-6 hours each time. On days 2-14 of each cycle, he will take at-home medications, including steroids and anti-nausea medications. Dose-dense MVAC in 14-day cycles has proven to give people with his type of cancer the greatest chance at a cure.
The goal for the next few months, while Dave undergoes chemotherapy, is to kill off as many cancer cells potentially floating around outside the bladder as possible, before his surgery.
Dave will head back to Northwestern on October 23 to have his port installed, and chemotherapy will begin on October 28.
It is safe to say, we are all ready to start kicking cancer’s ass.
